TV-Serie: Primeval - 4x1

My name's James Lester.
Five years ago, I was put in charge of the ARC, a top-secret government project investigation rips in time known as anomalies.
These anomalies allow long extinct creatures from distant eras to cross into our own time.
Our leading research scientist was murdered by his insane wife, Helen, who planned to wipe out humanity.
She's gone to kill the first human.
Stop evolution in its tracks.
Danny Quinn, Connor Temple and Abby Maitland went through an anomaly to stop her.
No one knows what happened to them.
But as the human race survived, we must assume they succeeded.
This thing's just died.
We don't know the route.
We can't get home.
None of them ever returned, lost forever in a distant past with no way home.
All attempts at rescue failed.
A new team was put in place...
and many changed made to the ARC.
Their battle continues.
There is always a new threat.
Whatever it is, we'll deal with it.
WOMAN: Help!
(DISTANT ALARM BUZZES) (ALARM BUZZING INCREASES) Talk to me, Jess.
It's my fault.
I released the airlock on the menagerie too early.
They were doing maintenance work and the creature got out.
God, I'm sorry.
Concentrate, Jess.
Have you got a visual?
I've moving into the corridor by Lab 3.
Matt!
I know.
Back-up needed south corridor by Lab 3.
Back-up to south corridor.
Hello.
Easy.
Are you OK?
Matt!
Can you hear me?
I'm fine.
Get out of there, Jess.
I've got to back-up the system.
This is all my fault.
Forget about that and get out of there!
It's coming your way!
(SCREECHES) (SCREECHES) Would someone mind telling me what on earth is...going...
..on?
(SCREECHES) Hey!
Tranq guns, now!
There, there.
Down, boy.
Sit.
Actually, it's a girl.
Hey!
Here, princess.
Come on.
Purely as a matter of interest, what's it doing in here?
We'll get to that later.
Come on.
Come on.
No, no, no, not my office!
Come on, girl.
There you go.
Have a drink.
Right.
So, there was nowhere else it could go?
I was improvising.
Oh, right.
(TWIG SNAPS) Connor, you scared the hell out of me!
You're getting sloppy.
well, I have to let you win every now and then.
What?!
You never even saw me coming!
Oh, really?
Ha.
Ha.
I can take you any time I like.
Keep still or I'll have your ear off.
I hear tapping.
It's just the wind.
Yeah.
(SQUAWKING) (SQUAWKING) One day it'll be more than just the wind.
That anomaly's gonna reopen.
I mean it.
We've got to keep believing that.
We can't...
We can't lose faith.
Connor, there is nothing we can do to get ourselves out of here.
But we can at least make sure we stay alive.
So peel.
You know, when we do get home I'm gonna write a cookbook.
A Thousand And One Ways To Cook Roots And Bulbs.
I could be like your Cretaceous celebrity chef.
(THEY CHUCKLE) Oh, I had a dream about coffee last night.
I would kill for a decent cappuccino.
Connor, don't go there.
Sorry.
I should be thinking tasty roots, yummy bulbs.
Go do some gathering.
Yeah?
We will make it home.
One day.
Mm.
(SIGHS) (GROWLS) (SCREECHES) I'm sure there's a perfectly rational explanation for this.
Um...
Jess?
It was...
My fault, James.
Sorry.
I was overseeing some maintenance at the menagerie.
There was a problem with the airlock, dracorex got spooked and bolted.
It won't happen again.
You know, I could have been Ambassador to Moscow by now.
Maybe even Cabinet Secretary.
Instead, I'm watching a dinosaur trash my office.
Still, no regrets.
Becker's gonna tranq it.
It shouldn't be long now.
(SCREECHES) Don't you think you should help him?
What would be the fun in that?
I'll have Sleeping Beauty moved to the menagerie.
Good work.
Meet me in the armoury in half an hour.
Why?
Haven't you heard?
The EMDs have arrived.
The electro muscular disruption weapons?
Oh, yes, the toy guns.
If the toy guns had been here this morning, this wouldn't have happened.
Gotcha!
Sorry, mate.
(ROARS) (WHIMPERS) Abby!
Abby!
Abby!
Connor!
(DINOSAUR ROARS) Get back inside!
Quickly!
Come on!
(ROARS) Abby!
Come on!
(ROARING) We have to move camp.
We can't leave the anomaly site.
What if it opens up again and we miss it?
Spinosauruses are territorial, Connor.
Now it knows we're here it will be back.
We have to go.
No!
Abby, we could be missing our only chance to get out of here!
What chance?
We've been here a year, Connor.
A year.
And nothing has happened.
Just face it.
We're stuck here.
Alone.
Forever.
You're wrong.
And we're not alone.
We're together.
If we stay here...
..that spinosaurus will kill us.
Only a matter of time.
OK?
You're late.
Oh, excellent (!) Tasers!
These are in a different league to any tasers you've used in the past.
I wouldn't have designed it if it didn't work.
You need to remember how many friends I've lost.
I'm not gonna risk any more lives playing around with pea-shooters.
The EMD can be adapted to three basic levels - low, medium and high voltage, depending on what you use it for.
I know what they do, Jess.
I don't think he believes us.
This is nothing like you've ever experienced before.
OK.
Try it.
I mean it.
Shock me.
If I think it's an effective weapon, I'll use it.
If not, you back down.
You really don't want me to do that, Becker.
Oh, I do.
Come on, Matt.
Show me what you've got.
Matt...you can't!
Will you stop being such a pair of kids?
He started it.
It's OK, he'll live.
Probably.
Will you fire...
(GROANS) Are you OK?
(COUGHS) Yeah.
Yeah, I'm fine.
(COUGHS) That was the lowest setting on the smallest version of the weapon.
The highest is designed to bring down a tyrannosaurus rex.
How far do we have to go?
A mile.
Maybe two.
(CLICKING) What was that?
(CLICKING) Raptor.
She's feeding.
Come on.
(SCREECHING) (SHUFFLING) That's my blanket.
Blanket?
Abby!
(COUGHS) Are you absolutely sold on these EMDs?
(SIGHS) Cos you know I could always shoot you again.
(COUGHS) Idiot.
(GROANS) How long until this wears off?
The burning?
A couple of hours.
Headaches - a couple of days.
The humiliation - well, that kind of depends when I get bored of it, really.
You're not really a funny man, Matt.
Depends on your point of view.
Look, Becker, I know you've lost friends.
But I need you to understand that I won't do anything to risk the team.
After Sarah was killed, I thought about quitting.
Danny, Connor, Abby.
And the one thing I can do here is make sure that never happens again.
It wasn't your fault.
You know that.
It was my job to look after them.
I...failed.
It was a year ago.
You really need to let it go now, mate.
You trust me, right?
Yeah, with my life.
You're not gonna hug me now, are you?
God, no.
Just collect them in a pile, we'll sort through them later.
Another tantrum, James?
You really must learn to control that fiery temper of yours.
Very amusing, Philip.
Thank you, ladies.
I think we'll resume, shall we?
If you need any more help with these creatures, all you have to do is ask.
I think we can manage.
(CHUCKLES) Evidently.
Hm...
I've just had lunch with the minister.
Really?
I didn't er...hear about any lunch.
Oh, it was arranged ages ago.
He wants me to put another half billion into the anomaly project.
And er...what did you say?
Oh, I agreed.
If we're gonna make these private/public partnerships work, we entrepreneurs have to do our bit.
Anything you need, James, all you have to do is ask.
All of Prospero's resources are at your disposal.
We're in this together.
Jess, I need you to hack into Philip's private diary.
Next time he has lunch with the Minister, I want to know about it.
No private hacking.
Excuse me?
Whatever happened to blind obedience?
Morning, Matt.
So why did you cover for Jess?
I had the logs checked.
The airlock was opened from her terminal.
Yeah, I was using her computer.
You're a terrible liar.
To be honest, I don't really need to know.
Good management is about picking the right people for the job and letting them get on with it...
till they screw up.
What's it doing?
Building a bower.
Eh?
Oh, a nest.
What does he want with all those sticks?
He's trying to make it as decorative as he can.
It helps him to er...
Pull.
I was going to say attract a mate, but yes, pull.
This time, he's gonna have to say it with flowers.
You can stay here.
I'll go.
Oops.
(Careful!) Sorry.
What've you got in here?
My gloves!
Connor!
I wondered where they got to.
You've got to get out of there!
Abby!
Get out of there, Connor!
You won't believe it!
Abby!
Look!
The anomaly device.
What's left of it anyway.
This must have been Helen's.
Is it still working?
Er...
Forget it, Connor, it's dead.
No.
No, it's gonna work.
It has to.
Take the battery out and shake it or something.
Oh, for...
Whatever the equivalent is, then.
It always worked on the TV remote.
Fine.
(BEEPING) Abby!
What?
(BEEPING) Oh, my God!
You're a genius!
Mwah!
OK.
Where are you?
(CLATTER) (RATTLE AND JANGLE) Connor.
Shall we?
Yeah.
Anomaly detected.
Stand by for data transmission readings.
Location details: map coordinates 7-7-4-2-5.
Distance: 8.3 miles heading 2-7-0.
Bring down airlift to all black box units.
(SCREECHES) OK...chances of us nipping around the side without it noticing.
None.
That's what I thought.
I don't care where that anomaly leads.
I'm gonna go through it.
I've got an idea.
Abby, no, that's insane.
Abby!
Estimated journey time: 11 minutes.
Population density: high.
49 structures within radius, average height: 19.8 metres.
Come on, Abby.
Hey!
Hey!
Lovely work.
OK...
OK, this is promising.
Are we home?
Connor...are we back?
Well, one good thing - I don't think we're gonna get eaten here.
(TYRES SCREECH) Keep your hands down where we can see them!
Down on the ground!
Face down!
OK!
On the ground, now!
I hope you brought be back a souvenir.
Where the hell have you been?
Well, you know...
Here and there.
We would have called but the reception was terrible.
We came looking for you.
We sent four missions.
We tried everything.
It doesn't matter now.
We're back.
And everything is gonna be just fine.
We did it.
I know.
Yes!
Connor and Abby came through the anomaly!
They're back!
They made it!
Well, what about Danny?
So where's Danny?
Is he not with you?
No, he never made it back.
Matt, I'd like to introduce you to two of my good friends.
Abby Maitland.
Connor Temple.
It's great to meet you.
I'm Matt Anderson.
I'll have someone escort you back to the ARC.
Keep three men on site until the anomaly closes.
And the rest patrolling a half-mile exclusion perimeter.
You don't need to wait until it closes.
I can do it for you.
It works, believe me.
Used it before.
(BEEPING) Now you see it...
In a sec.
Yeah, that's not meant to happen.
That's my blanket.
(ROAR) (ROARS) So sorry, mate.
Don't worry about it.
Jess, we've got a large theropod incursion.
I need a grid map of the area two miles radius.
Downloading to your remote.
Just give me the biggest enclosed space you can.
Stand by.
Hurry up about it, Jess!
Well, obviously.
It's a spinosaurus, by the way.
Thanks, mate (!) Do you think they know what they're doing?
What's going on?
Creature incursion.
Trust Connor to bring a pet back with him.
But they're all right, are they?
So far.
Good.
Keep it that way.
I want them back here in one piece.
(STARTS ENGINE) Oi!
We're gonna have to corral it somehow.
Not in this.
We're gonna need something bigger.
I need to borrow your truck.
What have you got for me, Jess?
There's an arena a mile to the northwest.
Make sure the access doors are open.
Already done.
Becker, where are you?
Two streets over.
We have to get it into this arena.
What if it decides it wants to go somewhere else?
Persuade it otherwise.
(ROARS) Is that phone insured?
Good.
And you, get a haircut.
(ROARS) All right, Matt, here we are.
What now?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Matt!
(TYRES SCREECH) (ROARS) (CAR HORN) Reverse.
That way.
Yup.
Go.
Go, go, go!
We need to get it to the arena now.
Jess, need to raise comms in vehicle Sierra Alpha 7.
You're driving too close to the kerb!
Abby, Connor, this is the ARC.
Please respond.
Er...
This is Connor Temple.
Sorry about nicking your car.
Don't scratch the paintwork.
I've got a message from Matt.
Lead the spinosaurus to the arena.
I repeat, lead it to the arena.
The arena.
Right.
Cool.
Um...
What arena?
Where the hell's the arena?
Maintain direction for 300 yards.
Take second turn on the right.
Second turn on your...
I'm not deaf, Connor.
Sorry.
But thanks.
Why aren't they back yet?
Are they OK?
They've stolen a car.
Right, so they're fine, then.
Here, let me speak to them.
Hands off.
These are my controls.
You can be replaced, you know.
You're hilarious.
Matt, the arena doors are open so you're good to go.
Sorry.
As you were.
(TYRES SCREECH) (ROARS) (ROARS) If I can just open an anomaly.
Maybe we should let them handle it.
I just need a few minutes.
Right, full-phase attachments.
Wait for my word.
Come on.
OK, stand by.
All units into position.
Fire on my command.
Oh, come on!
(BEEPING) I can't use it here.
I need to get closer.
Connor!
No, wait!
What the hell is he playing at?
Hold your fire.
Hold your fire.
Does he do this kind of thing often?
Yeah, every now and again.
And how does it normally turn out?
Mm...
(ROARS) Come on.
(GROWLS) We can't risk firing with Connor in the way.
Come with me.
Come on!
Come on!
(ROARS) This is not cool.
(ROARS) Come on!
# S CLUB 7: Don't Stop Moving # DJ's got us going around, round # Don't stop moving, find your own way to it # Listen to the music # Don't stop moving # Can you feel the music?
# DJ's got us going around, round # Don't stop moving...
Connor, get clear!
Just give me a second.
Connor!
Grab hold!
Take us up!
Connor, grab me with both hands!
They're clear.
Fire!
# Don't stop moving # Can you feel the music?...
Argh!
What was that?
The line's jammed.
(GROWLS) No!
Let go of the device!
I just need a little more time!
We don't have any more time!
You don't know anywhere I can buy a decent cappuccino, do you?
# Don't stop moving to the S Club beat # Wow.
This is pretty sexy stuff.
Don't tell me, you missed the last bus home and had to walk.
Something like that.
It's so good to see you.
Oh.
You too.
Aw!
I think the point's been well made.
Don't you?
Probably.
Welcome back.
So er...Danny?
He went on ahead of us.
Whatever happened, he must have taken Helen down with him.
Right.
Wow.
Now that is one serious upgrade.
Hello.
Hello.
I'm Jess.
It's so good to finally meet you guys.
Becker's told me everything.
You guys are like legends around here.
Cheers, mate.
Whatever.
I thought you were dead.
Where's Sarah?
Abby.
Connor.
I can't tell you what a relief it is to see you two.
Forgive me...
Philip Burton.
I know.
This is the man who invented the room temperature super conductor.
Um...
Wow.
Wow?
Yeah!
He's like a living legend.
If all the Fantastic Four were rolled into one, he'd look a bit like this.
But not be a super hero, obviously.
He's more of a science nerd.
Thank you for the compliment, I think.
Yeah, no, it was meant as a...
I'm just overexcited.
Why are you here?
After the catastrophe of your last trip, the government decided the ARC would benefit from private sector management.
Catastrophe?
It was a bad time for all of us.
There was a demand for new thinking, you understand.
More resources.
Things had to change.
But we can discuss this later.
You two need to be debriefed and I want to hear every detail.
I can't believe I'm gonna be working with...
Oh!
Philip Burton!
James, why don't we continue this in your office?
I'm sorry, but when the ARC was reorganised the decision was taken to select operational staff with military background.
The front line is no place for amateurs.
Amateurs?
Us?
Perhaps it was the wrong word.
Don't tell me you agreed to this.
It was my idea.
Take some personal time.
Rest.
Use the company apartment for a few days.
Then we'll discuss something away from the firing line.
You don't get it.
All the time we've just spent away, all the sacrifices we had to make!
It was all for this!
So we could come back and carry on with Professor Cutter's work!
So we could fight until we actually won!
It's so harsh.
We can't quit now!
Not after everything we've been through.
It's for your own good, Connor.
Is it?
(BIRDSONG) Your message sounded important.
I'm sorry I'm late.
Oh, no.
Tacca Chantrieri.
I've never seen one outside of the tropics.
Not endangered yet, but rare enough.
Thank you.
It's beautiful.
So what's happened?
Connor Temple and Abby Maitland are back.
They survived 12 months in the Cretaceous.
That's remarkable.
What about Quinn and Helen Cutter?
No.
What will happen to Connor and Abby now?
They'll be debriefed in the morning.
After that, they're one their own.
Connor Temple is gifted.
No one knows more about the anomolies.
If they were inside the ARC, you could keep an eye on them.
It's out of my hands now.
I'll monitor them, see what they do next.
Good.
They may be the key to this whole thing.
It's a beautiful world, Matthew.
But for how much longer?
(WOMAN SHOUTS IN DREAM) You're up early.
Hi.
You keeping watch?
Still feels like one of us has to keep guard.
Yeah.
